Case Updates: 3 update(s) available

A Rottweiler described as "skin and bones" was picked up April 2 morning in the Ohio Avenue neighborhood, according to an Ashtabula Police Department report.

The dog got loose from it's kennel at 10:50 a.m., the report said.

Animal Control officer Bob Cevera captured the dog, and when he went to return it to it's kennel, he discovered a kennel covered with dog feces, the report said.

Cevera photographed the dog, which was laden with feces and sores, the report said.

The dog's owner is Herdy Christian IV, of 907 Ohio Ave., who faces charges of dogs at large and neglect, police said.

Cevera took the dog to the Ashtabula County Animal Protective League in Kingsville Township. On Friday, he transported another one of Christian's dogs to the APL, the report said.

"There are no more dogs at the residence," Cevera said in the report.

In May 2005, Christian was found guilty of dogs at large, according to Municipal Court records. He also has been found guilty of numerous traffic offenses during the past few years, records show.

The APL, at 5970 Green Road in Kingsville, is open 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. daily except Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays but closed on Wednesdays. For more information, call (440) 224-1222.
