Buxton police have rescued an assortment of animals from a trailer on Rose Ridge Way, and charged their owner with animal cruelty. They say they found five dogs, a cat, a pony and two goats in bad condition, as well as several dead animals.

All of the surviving animals were suffering from illness and malnutrition, and one dog was missing an eye. They were taken to several shelters.

Mark Coosard faces a felony charge of cruelty to animals, and will appear in court on April 19th.

Case Updates

A Buxton man was indicted by a York County grand jury last week on animal cruelty charges, following a March discovery by police of several malnourished or dead animals on his property.

Mark Coosard, 45, faces seven counts of cruelty to animals stemming from incidents dating back to September 2006. At the end of March, police arrived at Coosard's property and found malnourished dogs, a cat, two goats, a pony and several dead animals. A neighbor called the police after one of the dogs strayed onto her property.

In April, police said it appeared as though no one had been living on the property for a while. The animals did not have adequate food or water.
