Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!
A driver called the dispatcher at the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, said Maya Totman, who runs the Florida Keys Wildlife Rescue Center on Big Pine Key, reporting that a car in front of them was throwing live chickens - some in paper bags - out the car window along U.S. 1.
"At first we thought maybe someone was making fun of us," Totman said. "But we did find chickens."
Totman called Key West chicken advocate Katha Sheehan to help find the cast out birds.
Sheehan, who has been rescuing roosters for a decade or more, has some creative ways of capturing injured or unwanted fowl. For this rescue, she leashed a rooster and led him down the side of the road to lure the frightened hens. References« FL State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Monroe County, FL
