Floyde Campbell has been working in animal control for several years, but he described the sight March 28 night as "the worst period."

Seven skinned animals were found along a road in Bourbon County on Match 28 night. At least six of the animals were dogs, and the seventh one may have been a raccoon.

The only hair that was left was on the legs, said Campbell, with Bourbon County Animal Control. One of the dogs still had a string attached to the back leg as if it had been hanged and skinned, he said.

"On a scale from 1 to 10, this is an 11," said Campbell. "The abuse, the sight of it, the smell; it was just bad all the way around."

Millersburg Police Chief Kevin Booth said the animals were found along Shipville Road in Millersburg. A resident was riding a four-wheeler in the area and told Campbell of a stench and the body of an animal in the area.

The animals were 25 to 30 feet from the road, Campbell said.

"I couldn't get close to them because of the smell," Booth said. "The smell was ungodly."

Campbell did not know how long the bodies had been there. The animals were removed and buried by the county road department, he said.

The animals appeared to have been skinned in another location because blood was not found at the scene, he said. It appears the animals were thrown along the side of the road, Booth said.

Animal control and Millersburg police are investigating the incident. Campbell said an animal cruelty charge could be filed.
