Huntington County police are investigating an unconscionable act of animal cruelty that occurred on March 26.
A volunteer from Helping Paws Pet Haven on South Marion Road (Ind.-9) called the Huntington County Sheriff's Department just before 2 p.m. to report an unsettling discovery - two cats had been shot with arrows and had been left outside the facility. The felines - one just a kitten - still had the arrows stuck through them. The larger cat was found hanging from a perimeter fence and the younger one was lying on the ground below it.
Helping Paws is a no-kill cat shelter.
Huntington County Animal Control Officer Lori Hendrickson responded to the incident and was joined by Det. Steve Coe of the sheriff's department. Coe took photographs of the area, including a footprint found near the cats. The arrows were gray with green and white fletch.
Volunteers at Helping Paws plan to take care of the animals, Hendrickson noted. They're going to give the cats a proper burial, she said.
Investigators are hoping that someone might have noticed suspicious activity or a vehicle in the area near Helping Paws, 2242 S. Marion Rd., earlier Monday. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the sheriff's department at 356-8316. If you have information on this case, please contact: Huntington County Sheriff's Dept 356-8316
