Police continued searching today for the man suspected of shooting at least three of his ex-girlfriend's puppies in an alleged act of revenge, said Dallas Wilson, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.

One female puppy is expected to live after being shot in the leg. Another female puppy will have its leg amputate and has a 50 percent chance of survival, said Marsh Myers, a spokesman for the Animal Cruelty Taskforce of Southern Arizona.

A third female puppy was found dead in a garbage bin near the suspect's home, Myers said.

The mother of the puppies has not been found, but is believed to be dead, she said.

There were a total of nine puppies. The remaining six in the litter are fine, Myers said.

The 41-year-old ex-boyfriend allegedly called his girlfriend Thursday night saying he was upset over their breakup and threatened to shoot the mother dog and the nine puppies.

On Friday morning the girlfriend went to the home she shared with him at the 5600 block of East 25th Street and found two of the puppies who appeared to have been shot but were still alive.

A friend of the woman helped take the puppies to a clinic, according to police reports.

The Animal Cruelty Taskforce of Southern Arizona is investigating.
