The Greater Birmingham Humane Society is asking for help in finding those involved in what they call the worst case of animal abuse they have seen in decades. A pit bull suffering from severe burns was found in a neighborhood on Berkley Avenue in Bessemer. Authorites believe the pit bull may have been part of a dog-fighting ring and was later burned alive. According to Jacque Meyer, of the Humane Society, the dog suffered terribly, and was euthanized due to her extremely painful and severe injuries. Authorities believe that an accelerant was placed on the dog before she was lit on fire, and it is estimated that the dog suffered for approximately 24 hours before being found. The Greater Birmingham Humane Society is offering a $3500.00 reward for information leading to an arrest in this case. Anyone with information is asked to call the Animal Cruelty Hotline at: 205/369-0392.
