Authorities found a pit bull in Bessemer who had been badly beaten and had part of his face missing after enduring extreme abuse. According to reports, the dogs face was split open. The Greater Birmingham Humane Society euthanized the dog, stating he was in severe pain and would have had to go through several months of plastic surgery. The dog, nicknamed "Exeter" was found in an alley near a trash bin on Exeter Avenue. According to veterinarian Vaughn Walker, the dog suffered a very deep, horrific facial wound, that appeared to be from an axe or knife. The dog also appeared emaciated, and had wounds and scars on its body consistent with dog-fighting. The Greater Birmingham Humane Society is offering a $3,500.00 reward for information leading to an arrest or conviction in this case. Anyone with information is asked to call the Animal Cruelty Hotline at: 205/369-0392.
