Mark Robinson can fix just about any damage to your car, but he couldnt fix a pit bull that wandered into his body shop on Hammond Drive in Winter Haven.

We knew someone abused it, Robinson recalled.

Around the dogs neck was a choker collar that had been on so long that the dog had outgrown it.

As the animal grows, it gets larger and larger. The chain stays the same size and keeps getting deeper and deeper into the neck, explained veterinarian Joseph Ertel.

The dogs neck was infected and the animal was running a fever. It took a two-hour operation and 50 stitches to remove the collar.

Deputies say theyre shocked by the inhumanity of the crime to such a friendly dog.

He is just so happy to see you. He licks you. He lays his head in your lap. All he wants is to be loved, said Bob Cerat with Polk Animal Control.

The pit-bull is now doing fine. Deputies say anyone who can help them find the person who hurt it can call them at (800) 226-TIPS.
