Cat shot in the head in front of children
San Antonio, TX (US)

Incident Date: Tuesday, Mar 13, 2007
County: Bexar

Disposition: Not Charged

Person of Interest: Daniel Blowe

A man was facing felony animal cruelty and weapons charges March 14 after shooting his mother's cat in the head, San Antonio Police said.

Daniel Blowe allegedly shot the cat, named Tigger, on his front lawn in front of children March 13 evening.

Blowe's mother, Madeline Browder, owned Tigger, and she told News 4 WOAI Wednesday her son did not shoot the animal to be cruel. Browder said she and a neighbor had been taking care of Tigger since December.

"I had a bonding with him," Browder said of the cat.

Browder said Blowe, her adult son, did not approve of Tigger. She said the cat had not been to a veterinarian and seemed to be sick.

Browder said her son has been having personal problems, and that Tuesday appeared to snap.

"He ran upstairs, and I had no idea he was going to get the gun," Browder said.

Several neighbors told police that Blowe then shot the cat in the head.

"Tigger was in a puddle of blood," Browder said. "Danny got the shovel, picked him up, took him in the back yard and buried him."

Neighbors called police, and Blowe was arrested.

"To him, he was solving a problem," Browder said. "He was putting the cat out of its misery. He wasn't doing it to be mean to me."

Madelyn told News 4 WOAI her son has been emotionally distraught since the shooting. She said Blowe was admitted to the hospital Wednesday because he was so physically sick over happened.

Blowe is scheduled to be in court next Thursday.
