RSPCA inspectors have seized more than 30 roosters and a variety of cockfighting equipment and magazines in a raid on a property at Greenbank, in Brisbane's south.
Senior RSPCA Inspector Kyle Chaplin said the raid followed tip-offs from the public about a number of cockfighting rings.
"We're not sure whether it's actually on the increase or that people are simply more aware of the animal welfare issues," he said.
"Either way, we're very grateful for the information."
The RSPCA said charges were expected to be laid next week.
People convicted of animal cruelty face fines of up to $75,000 or two years imprisonment.
The latest incident follows the seizure of 126 fighting fowl from a property southwest of Brisbane in May, 2003.
Inspectors raided the property near Kalbar, found the birds as well as spurs, used for training and fighting poultry.
The RSPCA raid was launched after the Australian Customs Service intercepted a parcel from the United States, containing cockfighting equipment and other items used in the blood sport. References
