An incident of animal cruelty is under investigation by Limerick Gardai. A unit from Roxboro Garda Station were called to O'Malley Park at 10.30 on March 21 night after receiving a report that a cat was being savaged by a pitbull.
An eyewitness described seeing three young men holding the cat by the back legs and unleashing the dog on it.
Gardai later removed the badly injured cat from the scene and it was put to sleep. A Garda spokesperson says they can not confirm if this was an attempt to blood the dog for a fight.
Niamh Allen from Limerick Animal Welfare says there is mounting evidence to suggest that organised dog fights are taking place in the city. References
