Michael G. Jianniney, 25, of Preston, was charged March 19 by the Caroline County Humane Society with aggravated cruelty to animals.

According Traci Higdon, executive director for the Caroline County Humane Society, the Humane Society received a call on Feb. 19 from Maryland State Police regarding Jianniney, who had allegedly sliced his 12-week-old puppy's throat on Feb. 18. When animal control officers arrived at the scene, the Labrador Retriever mix puppy was dead.

Jianniney is currently being held at the Queen Anne's County Detention Center for violation of parole.
