A Morton County man is arrested after he shot his neighbors dog on March 17, west of Mandan. The man told Morton County Sheriffs deputies he shot the dog because it was coming after him.
Authorities say the dog was sixty feet from the man.
He was arrested for cruelty to animals, disorderly conduct, terrorizing and reckless endangerment.
Case UpdatesSixty-seven-year-old William Doll has been charged with reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct and animal abuse. He posted two-thousand dollars bail.
Morton County Sheriff Dave Shipman says Joe Holzer called the sheriff's department on Saturday after hearing two shots and his dog's yelps.
Shipman says Holzer's big, black Griffon, named Griz, had been shot once with a .22-caliber rifle.
He says the dog was alive when the owners found it, but the animal died on its way to the veterinarian.
Doll told authorities that the dog approached him and his wife in an aggressive manner, so he fired one shot in the air to scare the dog. Doll says he shot dog when the first shot did not scare the animal.
Shipman says four children were playing in the area where Doll shot the dog.
Shipman says the dog was found on the fenceline between Holzer's and Doll's adjacent properties.
Shipman says Doll and Holzer have been involved in an ongoing feud since Holzer bought the property next to Doll's property three years ago. | Source: KXNet - March 21, 2007 Update posted on Mar 22, 2007 - 12:18AM |
