Police said a long-running feud between two teenagers came to a boil and ended with a dead dog and a teen in custody.
You never think things like that would happen right in your neighborhood. Never, said resident Natasha Garrett.
Neighbors said a 16-year-old and a 14-year-old, who are next-door neighbors, have had a feud going for weeks.
Police said the 14-year-old first pointed a crossbow at the 16-year-old. They said the 16-year-old was able to wrestle the crossbow away.
They said the 14-year-old then hit the 16-year-old on the head with a baseball bat, then threatened him with a hunting knife.
Police said a few moments later, the boys dogs got into a fight, and that the 14-year-old used the hunting knife to kill the 16-year-olds dog.
However many times it took to stab the animal to kill it, I dont know, but I know he stabbed it to death, said Murfreesboro Police Lt. Alvin Baird.
He said the 14-year-old is charged with assault, intentional killing of an animal and possession of a weapon. Police said the 14-year-old has been charged previously over a fistfight.
In 2005, police said, He supposedly pulled a knife on someone, threatened them with it, and also pulled a gun on that same person and threatened them with it, Baird said.
Neighbors said they consider the incident a wake-up call.
My goddaughter, she actually plays with some of the kids, and it just makes me worry about, you know, where she is and who shes with now, Garrett said.
Police said the 16-year-olds injuries were not serious and that the 14-year-old is still in custody. Neighborhood MapFor more information about the Interactive Animal Cruelty Maps, see the map notes.
