Hoarding 33 cats, 3 dogs Garberville, CA (US)Incident Date: Monday, Feb 26, 2007 County: Humboldt
Charges: Misdemeanor Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Barbara Moller
The number of animals seized from a moving truck in late February is growing at the Humboldt County Animal Shelter, but the animals cannot be offered for adoption or sent out because they are part of an active investigation.
About three dogs and 33 cats were found in the back of the truck allegedly driven by Barbara Moller, 58.
Deputies received a number of complaints that the woman was driving the truck around Garberville and Redway collecting animals.
She told officials she was rescuing them.
The District Attorney's Office said Moller was charged with a misdemeanor count of animal abuse. No court date was immediately assigned.
Lt. Steve Knight of the Humboldt County Sheriff's Department said the number of animals related to the case is increasing.
"We have some kittens now," Knight said.
Recently, one of the seized cats gave birth to seven kittens and up to two more cats may be pregnant.
Knight said until the animals are awarded to the shelter or other arrangements are required by the court, the animals are in a "holding pattern." References« CA State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Humboldt County, CA
