Three filthy, emaciated dogs seized Conneaut, OH (US)Incident Date: Monday, Mar 12, 2007 County: Ashtabula
Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: William A. Jones
Three filthy, emaciated puppies were found March 12 in an abandoned home owned by a Conneaut man, scheduled to go on trial March 27 for killing animals and more, according to Ashtabula Police Department reports.
William A. Jones, of 782 Harbor St., was issued a summons Monday, charging him with animal abandonment and animal cruelty after the dogs were found at 3847 Lake Ave., police said.
A neighbor called to report the problem when he heard the puppies - - two beagle-mixes and one shepherd-lab mix - - crying and barking.
"Three dogs were left inside this vacant house with no food or water," Capt. Gerald Cornelius said. "There was dog feces all over the floor."
Animal Control Officer Robert Cevera noted in his report: "The whole house was a stinking mess."
Someone partially filled a bathtub with stagnant, smelly water, but the dogs could not reach it, Cornelius said.
The animals were transported to the Animal Protective League in Kingsville Township. Anyone interested in providing foster care for the puppies or adopting the puppies can come to the shelter between 12:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Sunday, except on Wednesdays.
Last October, Jones pleaded not guilty to killing animals, cruelty to animals, no dog license, vicious dog and having more than two dogs in the city, according to Municipal Court records.
He also was cited for parking on a front yard, court records show.
In May 1999, he was found guilty of discharging a firearm in the city, records show. References« OH State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Ashtabula County, OH
