Pit bull starved to death chained in back yard

On November 6, 2006, animal control officers found a dead pit bull that appeared to have been starved to death. The dog reportedly died after being chained in a back yard with no food or water. The owner, Michael Lorenzo Ballentine II, was arrested and charged with animal cruelty.

On February 14, 2007, Ballantine pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charge of animal cruelty in Decatur City Court. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and court fines. He is prohibited from owning or having contact with any animals for two years.
