Two teenagers face animal cruelty charges after a duck was stomped to death and two pigs bashed with a shovel at a Central Coast school.
A Berkshire pig, which was being groomed for this year's Royal Easter Show, suffered leg injuries and another pig's face was cut after the teenagers climbed over a barbed wire fence at Brisbane Water Secondary College's Umina campus the weekend before last.
The pair chased ducks around the enclosure before throwing one into the pig pen and allegedly stomping on a large white duck's head until it died.
The attack was described as "totally unacceptable,'' by a NSW Department of Education spokesman.
He could not confirm whether the teenagers in question were students of the school.
The department is working with police in their investigation into the incident.
The Central Coast Express Advocate reported the Parents and Citizens president Bruce Graf as saying: "It's very disheartening because the students put so much time and effort into looking after the animals."
Brisbane Water crime manager Chief-Insp Darren Bennett told the paper that two youngsters had been identified over the incident and that allegations of animal cruelty would be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act. References
