A woman who constantly complained to police about her neighbors dog shot the canine when it ran up her driveway, police said.

The woman, whom police are not identifying, said she feared for her safety as well as the safety of her two dogs when a Boxer-style dog ran toward her, growling and showing its teeth on Feb. 19, Police Chief Robert Kish said. The woman told police she went into her garage, grabbed a 9mm pistol and shot the dog once, which then went whimpering back to its home in the 3500 block of Edgewater Drive.

The dogs owner, Gregory Zak, 61, wanted his neighbor charged for shooting his dog, but Kish said a blood trail leading from the neighbors driveway to Zaks house indicated the dog was on her property when the incident occurred.

Kish said it wasnt the first time either. Officers have been to the residence at least six times prior for reports the dog was running into other yards. Zak was charged with allowing his dog to run at large. The dog, named Jessie, survived, police said.
