Dog starved, collar embedded, resulting in death
Tucson, AZ (US)

Incident Date: Wednesday, Mar 7, 2007
County: Pima

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

Authorities are asking for the public's help in identifying the owner of an abandoned boxer-mix dog that was the victim of animal cruelty and neglect and subsequently had to be euthanized.

The dog, an adult female, was found in the desert near the 3700 block of West Hermans Road and Sorrell Lane and authorities believe she may have been dumped there on Wednesday morning between 7:30 and 9:30, according to a news release from the Animal Cruelty Taskforce of Southern Arizona.

The dog, which had reddish-brown fur, had a large wound that ran the circumference of her neck that was apparently caused by an extremely tight-fitting flea collar, the release said. The dog was also emaciated with her ribs and hip bones clearly visible.

Because of the condition the dog was in, she had to be euthanized by county veterinary staff.
