CONVICTED: Was justice served?

Please vote on whether or not you feel the sentence in this case was appropriate for the crime. (Be sure to read the entire case and sentencing before voting.)

weak sentence = one star
strong sentence = 5 stars

more information on voting

When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.

Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "People’s Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isn’t enough.

Tethered dog dies of heat stroke
Searcy, AR (US)

Incident Date: Thursday, Jul 20, 2006
County: White

Disposition: Convicted

Defendant/Suspect: Alonna Langley

Alonna Langley of 109 Cole Lane #6, a mile north of Searcy, found guilty of a animal cruelty in Searcy District Court on Feb 20, was given 10 days in jail and a $500 fine. Sentenced to 35 days in the court's work release program, Langley was put on supervised probation for a year.

On July 20, a witness saw a dog tied to a very short leash and jerking as if having a heat stroke at Langley's residence. Temperatures the day of the report were up to 99 degrees, according to a witness who notified the White County Sheriff's Department.

The dog had no food or water bowls, tried to stand but could not, and a witness made a video of herself carrying water to the dog. When she sprinkled water on the animal, "it looked like steam rising," she told police.

When deputy Donald Shull arrived at 2:25 p.m., he knocked on the trailer door. When he did not receive a response, he walked to the end of the residence and found a blue heeler laying on the ground and chained.

Deputy Shull picked up a stick and poked the dog, then realized it was dead, according to court information.
