Broward Sheriff's Office deputies said they found eight maltreated dogs Feb 20 evening at the house of an alleged drug dealer. On Feb. 20, a team of BSO deputies armed with a search warrant surrounded the home of felon Enaildo Baptiste at 1510 NW Third Way in Pompano Beach.

Police said that once they entered Baptiste's home, deputies found cocaine, marijuana, Ecstasy, two handguns and cash.

Baptiste, 24, had already racked up a lengthy arrest record on drug charges, aggravated assault, battery, aggravated battery, false imprisonment, and violation of parole, officials said.

Outside, police found four puppies -- three of which were crammed into a single cage -- and four adult pit bulls. Police said that one of the adult dogs looked malnourished and another was badly scarred from fighting and had a horribly infected wound.

Officials booked Baptiste into the Main Jail on a litany of drug and animal cruelty charges. The dogs were taken to the Coral Springs Animal Hospital for care. As soon as the dogs get a clean bill of health, officials stated they hope to be able to put them up for adoption.
