County: Sumter

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Kairella Himphill

Case Updates: 1 update(s) available

Sumter County deputies have arrested one person in connection with the discovery of 20 dogs that officers say were malnourished.

Kairella Himphill, 27, is charged with 20 counts of ill treatment of animals and possession of a stolen motorcycle.

Deputies say they found the animals behind her home on Manning Road.

Sumter deputies say the animals were malnourished, and some had possible scars. Deputies say the animals had likely been denied food.

At this point, deputies say they have no evidence to suggest the animals were being used in a dog fighting ring.

Investigators found out about the place through an anonymous tip.

Deputies say Himphill found two parts of stolen motorcycles on the property as well.

Case Updates

Some of the mistreated pit bulls seized last month in Sumter County are now available for adoption.

The dogs were found in woods behind a home on Manning Road. Many of the dogs were malnourished. One suffered bite marks, and another had an injured leg.

The owner of the home, Kairella Himphill, is charged with 20 counts of ill treatment to animals. She's out of jail on bond, awaiting trial.

One dog died and another was put to sleep because it was deemed vicious. The other 18 were examined by a veterinarian who says they are not vicious and are ready to find homes.
