more information on voting
When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.
Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "Peoples Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isnt enough.

Dog shot Palm Desert, CA (US)Incident Date: Sunday, Feb 4, 2007 County: Riverside
Disposition: Convicted Case Images: 3 files available
Defendant/Suspect: Jack Sawyer
Case Updates: 1 update(s) available
A Palm Desert man could face felony charges after shooting his neighbor's dog on Feb 4 night. Jack Sawyer says he shot the dog, after three of Lori Shook's dogs ran toward him while he was walking his own dog.
Lori Shook's family brought home their yellow lab Oakley from an animal hospital in Orange County, on Feb 7. Oakley was shot in the neck and almost died as a result of the wound. Now moving slowly and breathing heavily, and on pain killers and antibiotics, it will take some time for the yellow lab to recover. The dog's throat is now lined with stiches from the surgery to remove the bullet, which the Shooks still have. Oakley will probably lose his ability to bark, but otherwise he should be alright.
19 year old Amanda Shook heard the dogs barking on Feb 4 night when they approached Mr. Saywer. She was outside and says she saw Mr. Sawyer shoot Oakley, who she says was not threatening Sawyer.
The case has now been turned over to the District Attorney's office. The Shook family could take legal action against Mr. Saywer, who could also face jail time if charged and convicted.
Case UpdatesThe man accused of shooting a neighbor's Labrador retriever pleaded guilty to unlawfully carrying a firearm yesterday at Indio's Larson Justice Center.
Jack William Sawyer, 73, was fined $250 and given two years probation. Sawyer was also required to destroy his Smith & Wesson revolver and is not allowed to possess a firearm, according to court documents.
The charges stemmed from a February 4 incident where Sawyer shot a neighbor's dog while walking his Chihuahua in a Palm Desert community. Sawyer said the Lab and two other dogs jumped on him and he was acting in self-defense. | Source: Desert Sun Online - March 20, 2007 Update posted on Mar 20, 2007 - 11:20PM |
