A tip to the Nebraska humane society brought animal control officers to a home near 42nd and Parker on Feb 9 where they discovered up to 15 cats, and an elderly man living inside the house.

"The house hasn't been cleaned in years. There's cat feces and urine on furniture and on the uncarpeted floor. We have flies and gnats and lice all over the place flying around inside the house," said animal control officer, Mark Langan.

Police met animal control officers at the home, 4206 Parker, around 2 pm Feb 9 and worked most of the afternoon. Click here to find out more!

Langan and others suited up in gear designed to protect them from the garbage and filth they had to wade through to check on the animals. Langan said garbage has piled up in the home for years.

Animal control workers were able to remove just four cats from the home. The rest of them scattered and hid.

The three cats that were removed were suffering from numerous health problems.

Officials with Adult Protective Services were at the scene, checking on the welfare of the man living there, Richard Gilstrap Sr. The man told officers he didn't want to leave.

He apparently lives in the house with two adult children who did not return home during the raid.

The owners will be cited for animal cruelty, allowing unhealthy living conditions, and for having too many cats.
