Dog suffering from severe mange Selma, NC (US)Incident Date: Monday, Jan 22, 2007 County: Johnston
Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Donna Leigh Smith
A postal worker is facing animal cruelty charges. Johnston County Animal Cruelty Investigator Roger Davis said charges were filed against 42-year-old Donna L. Smith of Selma in early February after they allegedly discovered her 9-month-old German Shepherd puppy had a severe case of mange. "It's the second worst case of the mange I've ever seen," Davis told WMPM.
Officers went to Smith's home in January and reportedly found the dog bleeding from his legs, face and chest. Davis said Smith had to be told to take her dog to the vet, which later euthanized the animal. Smith, an employee at the Clayton Post Office, was charged with cruelty to animals, a misdemeanor offense, and released under a $500 bond.
