Two men were arrested Feb 5 by the Winterville Police Department in connection with dog fighting in the Hillcrest Park area.
Brandon Jamal Green, 18, and Vonderrick Parker, 16, both of Winterville, were charged with dog fighting and baiting, said Winterville Sgt. J. Mercado.
Parker, who was out on bond for charges of breaking and entering and larceny of a firearm, also was charged with resisting, delaying or obstructing an officer, Mercado said.
Green posted bond and was released, while Parker remained at the Pitt County Detention Center on Feb 6 night.
Mercado said the department had received reports of dog fighting at the park and on Bullock and Knox streets.
Monday afternoon, officers saw the men in the 2400 block of Knox Street with two dogs. Mercado said both animals had obvious signs of fighting.
A witness identified the men, who were taken into custody. Both signed over custody of the dogs to animal control, Mercado said.
