A stray cat that was partially shaved with an electric razor, set afire and allegedly swung around by its tail and beaten with a beer bottle earlier this month, will be available for adoption Monday.

Two teen-age Marysville boys allegedly began terrorizing the cat at about 9:30 p.m. on July 6, 1997 at an apartment in the 6900 block of 47th Avenue NE.

A woman in her 30s was apparently at the apartment, but was not aware of what the boys reportedly were doing, Vasconi said.

According to Vasconi, one of the boys thought it would be funny to see the cat bald. So the other boy allegedly used an electric razor to shave some of the cat's fur, Vasconi said. The abuse continued, Vasconi said, when one boy said the cat looked cold. The other boy allegedly said he knew a quick fix and used a lighter to set the cat on fire, Vasconi said.

A few days later one of the boys allegedly told police he blew the fire out when he saw flames before the other boy grabbed it in a choke hold and threw it out the window of a ground-floor apartment, Vasconi said.

Then, as the cat wandered back in the window, one of the boys allegedly picked it up by its tail and swung the cat around and threw it out the window again, he said.

The next morning, one of the boys was playing with the cat in the apartment complex parking lot when the cat scratched him, Vasconi said. The boy then allegedly hit the cat at least once with a beer bottle, he said.

The police department will pay for all veterinarian costs, Vasconi said. The two boys suspected of abusing the cat have criminal histories, said Vasconi. The case was turned over to juvenile court.
