Police busted up an illegal cockfight that attracted nearly 200 spectators to a makeshift ring at a Beaumont residence. The event was reported at 2:10 p.m. in the 14000 block of California Avenue, according to Riverside County Sheriff's Sgt. Jeronimo Contreras.
Nearly 200 spectators who were gathered at the residence scattered into nearby hills when deputies arrived.
A $20 admission sign was posted "outside a makeshift cock fighting ring which was concealed under a shack in the back yard," Contreras said.
Animal Control officers took in 39 dead roosters and 92 live ones. Six of them were later euthanized due to their injuries, Contreras said.
It was not immediately clear if any arrests were made. Neighborhood MapFor more information about the Interactive Animal Cruelty Maps, see the map notes.
