Newberry deputies have arrested three men who face assault, cruelty to animals, weapon, and illegal drug charges.

Deputies say an argument between neighbors left the three men in jail facing charges of assault and unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of illegal drugs.

Deputies arrested 19-year-old Angelo Santell Ruff of 1709 Drayton Street in Newberry and charged him with possession of a pistol by a person younger than 21, carrying a pistol unlawfully, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of crack cocaine, and possession of a controlled substance.

Also arrested was 19-year-old Jeremy Jerrell Sligh of 741 Giff Street in Newberry, and charged him with possession of a pistol by a person younger than 21, carrying a pistol unlawfully, and possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

Police arrested 19-year-old Marcal Antione Good of 1911 Epting Street in Newberry and charged him with simple assault, and cruelty to animals.

Sheriff Lee Foster says that deputies responded to a call at Stoney Battery Road in Newberry on Jan 25 afternoon at about 5:30 p.m. Police say there was an argument between neighbors when they arrived. Officers were warned that one suspect put something in his pants claiming it was a firearm of some sort.

Chief Deputy Jerry Wright located the suspects' car a short distance from the scene and stopped it as other officers quickly responded to the area.

As the officers began to search one of the occupants for weapons, deputies say the suspect began to struggle with the officers and ran away. Investigators say a deputy ran after the suspect, later catching him.

The officers say they found a Kel-Tec 9mm pistol, a small bag of crack cocaine, a bag of marijuana, and a bag containing 8 pills that are believed to be ecstasy.

The officers then searched the vehicle and they say they located a .45 Ruger caliber pistol, five bags of marijuana, and two bags of crack cocaine. The officers also found an additional bag of marijuana on one of the subjects when they arrived at the Newberry County jail.

Foster said that when they went back to the home, they found two pit bull dogs at the home that did not have food, water, or adequate shelter. The dogs were turned over to the Newberry County Animal Control and Good was cited for the cruelty to the dogs.

Foster says that after checking the serial numbers on the guns, they found that both of the pistols were identified as stolen during a theft from Elliot Brothers in Chapin.

Foster says the ATF (Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms) is handling the investigation.
