Janetta Stevens, 33, of 577 Frost Ave., was charged with one count of animal cruelty, a misdemeanor, Jan 12, according to Humane Society of Greater Rochester officials.
An emaciated 1-year-old Chow/mix dog was removed from Stevens' property last week. The dog was reportedly tied up behind her house without access to shelter or water, said Richard Gerbasi, vice-president of operations and field services for the Humane Society.
Stevens is scheduled to answer the charge in City Court on Jan. 26.
If convicted of the charge, Stevens could face up to one year in jail or a $1,000 fine, Gerbasi said.

A Rochester woman faces up to one year in jail for allegedly starving her dog. Janetta Stevens was in city court Friday morning where she heard the charges against her. She told news 10NBC that she's not guilty, but declined further comment.
Stevens is accused of leaving her one-year-old dog tied up behind her Frost Avenue home without access to shelter or water.
Investigators with the Humane Society say the chow-mix was emaciated when it was removed from the property last week.
