Vado, NM (US)

Incident Date: Wednesday, Jan 10, 2007
County: Dona Ana

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Barbara Russell

The Dona Ana County Sheriff's Department is searching for a Vado woman suspected of animal cruelty after 18-20 cats were taken from her abandoned apartment.

Sheriff's officials removed the cats Jan 10 after the receiving complaints of animal cruelty.

Animal Control met with the property owner, who had also received complaints of the smell coming from the apartment.

The apartment is rented to 40-year-old Barbara Russell, who, according to the property owner, has been away from the apartment for about two weeks.

The animals were removed from the apartment and the back yard of the property.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Russell on charges of animal cruelty.
