A 27-year-old Clovis woman charged with setting her house on fire in May 2004 to collect insurance money was sentenced on May 18, 2006 to 7 1/2 years in prison, according to a press release from the 9th Judicial District Attorney's office. Dayna Kendall was found guilty Dec. 16, 2005 on charges of arson, child abuse, cruelty to animals and attempted insurance fraud.

Investigators found evidence that Kendall intentionally started the fire in numerous locations throughout the house with charcoal lighter fluid, according to the release. Her three children were sleeping at the time the fire started but escaped unharmed, the release said. A dog and two cats died in the fire. Kendall was also sentenced to five years supervised probation upon her release.
