Police and RSPCA officers are investigating an animal cruelty case at Gladstone central Queensland, where dead puppies were found in a bin and four other dogs were left starving on the same property.
RSPCA regional inspector Shane Towers-Hammond says two of the puppies needed to be put down because they were severely malnourished and dehydrated, and were also suffering hook worm.
"It was also noted there was heavy, massive flea burden, I've never seen anything as bad as that," he said.
"So the poor little buggers were really suffering, and we had to euthanase those.
"There was also a number of puppies, dead puppies found in a small bin outside the premises."
He says the two surviving dogs are now doing well in RSPCA care.
Mr Towers-Hammond says further investiations are needed before charges can be laid.
"People have been spoken to and there's further inquiries that need to be done at this stage, and yes, owners have been spoken to," he said.
"But if someone is found guilty of an offence involving this sort of thing, it could bring up to a $21,000 fine or a year's imprisonment." References
