more information on voting
When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.
Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "Peoples Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isnt enough.

A 5-month-old puppy was brought to the Castle Shannon Animal Hospital with life-threatening injuries after officials took him from his owner, humane officers said.
Doctors said the puppy, which doctors have nicknamed Slugger, is lucky to be alive.
"It's very sad. It's terrible to think people treat animals like this," said Marcia Rothaar, of the Washington Area Humane Society.
Rothaar responded to a report from neighbors that Slugger's owner was viciously beating the dog.
"They said the dog had been beat with a bat -- with a wooden bat -- and had been thrown against a trailer," said Rothaar.
When she arrived, she said the man admitted to beating the dog, but he couldn't understand why she was there. He said he was simply reprimanding the animal, Rothaar said.
"He didn't think there was anything wrong with it," said Rothaar. "He said he was punishing the dog because it went to the bathroom in the house."
Slugger had an enormous swelling on his back and a huge lump on his head and was missing most of his teeth, Rothaar said.
The prognosis for Slugger is still unknown. Doctors working on him said they were afraid he might have swelling of the brain and kept him overnight.
The Washington Area Humane Society said Slugger was doing much better on Dec 24. He has been released from the hospital and resides in a foster home.
State police are investigating the case. They have not released the dog owner's name because he has not been charged.

Police are charging a puppy's owner after the animal was thrown against a trailer and left for dead. His foster owners call him Colby and he's made a remarkable recovery.
The chocolate-brown puppy with one blue eye and one green is a bundle of energy.
Three weeks ago, there was a big lump on Colby's head and he was missing some teeth.
A humane officer found the puppy lying outside a mobile home near Bentleyville, Washington County, after a neighbor called to complain.
Frank Sebetich Jr. now faces a single count of cruelty to animals.
State police said Sebetich beat the dog with a baseball bat and then threw him against the side of the house before hitting him in the head with the bat.
In the meantime, Colby continues to thrive in a home where he's safe.
The Marra family said they've fallen in love with Colby and are hoping to adopt him soon and make him part of their family. | Source: WPXI - Jan 17, 2007 Update posted on Jan 19, 2007 - 2:33AM |
