Hoarding 250 animals
Houston, TX (US)

Incident Date: Wednesday, Dec 20, 2006
County: Harris

Disposition: Not Charged

Person of Interest: woman

Nearly 250 animals living in poor conditions were rescued from a home in Sealy, according to officials. The Houston SPCA said dogs, cats, goats, chickens and rabbits were removed from the home on Chew Road on Dec 20 afternoon.

Officials said a concerned neighbor called Colorado County authorities because he was concerned for the animals' welfare.

"They were in varying conditions," SPCA Community Outreach Director Heidi Brasher said. "Some of them were pretty tough. The animals that were in the household were in a lot of filth; in a lot of their own waste and feces. The animals outside were in small crates and cages."

The owner of the animals is an elderly woman who was recently hospitalized, officials said.

A veterinarian will examine the animals for injuries and diseases on Dec 21.

SPCA officials said the animals will go up for adoption if they win custody of the animals at a hearing in late December.
