Twenty-four people were detained by police who got an anonymous tip about an illegal cockfight in an abandoned building in southwest Los Angeles.

The caller told police that more than 50 men were gathered in the building in the 700 block of West Washington Boulevard on Dec 15 at 9 p.m. and that two men had guns, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Nearly 100 people ran when police arrived, but police were still able to detain 24 of them, including a parolee-at-large and another person who was later released.

A stolen gun and more than $5,000 in cash was seized.

Southwest gang officers and the Animal Cruelty Task Force were handling the investigation, police said.
