A Stratford man who police said strangled his family's rabbit and threatened to bite his wife to death was ordered held on bond Dec 12.

Anthony Finelli, 35, of Stratford Road, is charged with third-degree assault, cruelty to animals and three counts of risk of injury to a minor.

Assistant State's Attorney Judy Stevens told Superior Court Judge Earl Richards that she is concerned for the victims' safety because of the horrendous allegations.

The judge agreed, and ordered Finelli held in lieu of $50,000 bond. He continued the case to Jan. 3.

On Dec 11 night, police said officers were called to the couple's home on a complaint of a domestic disturbance. When officers got into the home they were shocked to find blood splattered on the walls and floor.

But police said officers determined that the blood came from the rabbit, found at the bottom of the stairs in a bloody heap.

Police said the wife told officers Finelli had become intoxicated, yelled at their three young children and hit her in the arm with a skateboard. She said he threatened to bite her and had then strangled the rabbit.
