A Will County man was charged on Dec 7 with repeatedly having sex with an 18-year-old dog, a cockapoo, sheriff's police said.
Dwayne D. Page, 27, who was living with his mother near Elwood in Jackson Township, was charged with having sexual contact with an animal and animal abuse, police said.
"He's one sick guy," sheriff's office spokesman Pat Barry said.
Cockapoos are a mix between cocker spaniels and poodles, according to the Cockapoo Club of America's Web site.
Sheriff's Detective Dan Jungles received a call on Dec 7 from someone who either observed or heard of the abuse, Barry said. He said Jungles brought Page in to be interviewed and determined that Page had "ongoing" sexual contact with the female dog, named Pepper.
Page, formerly of Joliet, is on two years' probation after pleading guilty in April to indecent solicitation of a child, according to court records. He was required to register as a sex offender and did so at his mother's home in the 25000 block of Tehle Road, according to Illinois' sex offender Web site.
Page was being held on Dec 7 at the Will County Jail and is scheduled to appear in bond court today.
Pepper remains with Page's mother, police said.
Case UpdatesCriminal prosecutions are often more difficult when a victim doesn't testify. And when the alleged victim is a dog and there's no corroborating evidence, a criminal case wouldn't seem to have much of a chance.
That's what Will County prosecutors concluded Thursday in dropping charges against a county resident accused of gratifying himself with his mother's 18-year-old cockapoo.
Dwayne D. Page, 27, told Will County sheriff's police in December that he had "ongoing" sexual conduct with Pepper, a cocker spaniel-poodle mix, in his mother's home in the 25000 block of Tehle Road near Elwood, authorities said.
But without any physical evidence or witnesses to the alleged behavior, prosecutors couldn't sustain their burden of proof, said Chuck Pelkie, a spokesman for the state's attorney's office.
"There's no victim to corroborate the confession, either," Pelkie said.
Prosecutors told Circuit Court Judge Daniel Rozak they were dropping the felony charges of sexual contact with an animal and animal abuse.
On Thursday, they also filed a probation violation against Page, who was arrested on the dog charges while serving two years probation on a conviction for soliciting a child for sex in 2005, Pelkie said.
Rozak set Page's bail at $20,000 on the alleged violation and ordered Page to return to court on Tuesday for a hearing before Circuit Court Judge Amy Bertani-Tomczak, who had placed Page on probation.

Even before last week's charges, Page apparently was having trouble with the terms of his probation.
Page was cited for violating his probation by viewing "Web sites relating to diapers for sexual arousal" at his aunt's house in July, according to a Sept. 13 report by Page's probation officer.
Page was living with his mother near Elwood in Jackson Township when the alleged abuse of Pepper, a poodle and cocker spaniel mix, occurred.

| Page copped a blind plea in April to a charge of indecent solicitation of a child, said Charles Pelkie, spokesman for State's Attorney James Glasgow's office. Prosecutor's requested a prison term for Page, but he was sentenced instead to 24 months of probation and required to register as a sex offender. | Source: Herald News - Dec 8, 2006 Update posted on Dec 8, 2006 - 5:32PM |
