Greenville County animal control officers seized 26 dogs on Dec 6 from a home on Pine Forest Road in Travelers Rest, and three women were ticketed for cruelty to animals, said Magistrate Judge Matt Hubbard and a Greenville County spokesman.

Amanda Lorena Keith was charged with four counts of cruelty to animals; Sarah Janette Keith was charged with four counts of cruelty to animals; and Rebecca Smith Keith was charged with two counts of cruelty to animals, according to Hubbard and Lee Polowczuk, a county spokesman.

Amanda Keith also was charged with one count of keeping wild animals, said Hubbard and Poloczuk. Animals had been taken from the home before the dogs were seized Wednesday, said John Freed, interim executive director of the Greenville County Humane Society.

The three women will appear in summary court on Dec. 15, Hubbard said. Each ticket carries a maximum fine of $1,087.50 and/or 30 days in jail.

All 26 dogs are at the Humane Society on Furman Hall Road until the court date, Freed said.

The dogs have been examined, given shots and bathed, Freed said. They were underweight, he said. "They're all eating well and we expect them to survive," Freed said.
