Workers rescued 37 cats and three dogs left abandoned in a Kansas City apartment Monday, KMBC's Lara Moritz reported.
For three days, neighbors complained about too many cats and too strong an odor coming from a second-story apartment near 82nd Street and Troost Avenue.
"I laid in bed for two nights thinking I could not do it another day. I had to do something about them," a neighbor, Wendy Kendall, told Moritz.
News cameras were not allowed in the apartment, but Kendall said that it was a mess.
"Although their conditions were very bad, they were in their own fecal matter and stuff, they're probably going to have to be cleaned up and tested for different diseases," Kendall said.
The apartment manager said that the woman who is supposed to be living at the apartment has not paid rent in two months and other residents have not seen her.
"It's the worst I've ever seen, personally. I just feel sorry for them," Kendall said. References« MO State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Jackson County, MO
