Collin County Sheriff's Office investigators are trying to determine if a skinned dog was killed at the hands of a human being or by another animal.
According to Collin County briefing reports, Collin County Animal Control officials and sheriff's deputies found a dead Labrador retriever hanging from a fence near the intersection of County Road 451 and Farm-to-Market 982 south of Princeton and north of Culleoka on Nov 30.
Collin County Animal Control officials said they received an anonymous call around 3 p.m. Thursday about the dog. An animal control officer responded to the scene, discovered the deceased animal then called for sheriff's deputies.
Sgt. Ron James, of the Collin County Sheriff's Office, said the dog appeared to have been skinned. He said, according to incident reports, the dog had been badly mangled and larges of pieces of skin and flesh were missing.
James also said investigators could not determine at the scene if the dog's death was intentional or accidental. Animal Control personnel observed several other dogs running around the area or off into the woods at the time of their grisly discovery.
"Since they observed that, we don't know which way to go with it," James said. "We don't know."
James said the sheriff's Criminal Investigative Services department is still looking into the case to see if any crimes were committed or laws were broken. He also said the county would most likely hire a veterinarian to conduct an autopsy on the animal.
He also said no suspects had been identified or arrested as of Friday.
Animal Control officials said they could not offer any further comment on the matter since the case is being handled by a criminal investigative agency. References« TX State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Collin County, TX
