Case Updates: 2 update(s) available

A puppy with her head chopped off was found in the backyard of a home in rural Tarrant County during the weekend in what one law enforcement official called "a horrible and cruel" crime.

The homeowner told Tarrant County that two other puppies had been found in the same condition just a few weeks ago in the area.

"We are taking this very seriously," said Terry Grisham, a spokesman for the Tarrant County Sheriff's Department. "If it turns out to be adults, it's a state jail felony. If it's juveniles, there's mandatory counseling."

A young son of the homeowner found the body of the black puppy about 5 p.m. Friday in the 500 block of E. Pine Tree Circle just west of Keller.

The homeowner told police that he was working on his home when his young son alerted him to the puppy's body in their backyard.

The homeowner could not be reached Tuesday morning.

Responding to a call of animal cruelty, Tarrant County Sheriff's Department investigators arrived at the scene and found the female puppy's body in the yard. The dog appeared to be less than a month old, weighing a pound and about 6 inches long. The head was not found in the area on Friday and as of Tuesday morning it still had not been located, Grisham said.

"It didn't appear that the puppy had been there for very long," Grisham said.

The homeowner told authorities that two other puppies were found with their heads gone a few weeks ago in the neighborhood, but no other details were available.

"We are trying to determine what was used," Grisham said, referring to how the puppy's head was severed.

Tarrant County Sheriff's Department investigator Mac Riddle, who is assigned to the case, called the suspect a "sick person."

"He can't keep this inside of him forever," Riddle said. "He's going to need to talk to someone about what he did."

Anyone with information on this case should call the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office at 817-884-1274.

Case Updates

Authorities have interviewed several "people of interest" in connection with the decapitation of a puppy that was found Nov. 17 in the back yard of a home in unincorporated Tarrant County near Keller.

No one has been arrested, authorities said Monday.

The headless puppy was found by a 2-year-old boy who had gone to the back yard to play, his family said. He alerted his father to the discovery in the 500 block of East Pine Tree Circle in rural Tarrant County, west of Keller.

Robert Dillon said the headless puppy was the third he had found in the neighborhood. He found two others on Nov. 16 in an alley near his home, but at that time he believed other dogs had gotten to them.

When his son found the third puppy, Dillon called authorities. The puppies did not belong to the Dillon family.

The puppy found Nov. 17 was black and appeared to be less than a month old. It was about 6 inches long and weighed about a pound. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the Tarrant County Sheriff's Department at 817-884-1274.
