A Virginia Beach woman's dog has been seized and shes under investigation for possible dog fighting.

The pit bull, malnourished and scared, with fresh and old wounds, was brought to Animal Control last weekend.

Investigators said they found a heavy tow chain, treadmill and scars that are consistent with fighting at Candace Slades home.

Slade, who didn't want to talk on camera, is fighting the charge and says she'd never hurt an animal.

"They are bogus, absolutely bogus. I have an appointment with an attorney and it will be settled in court next Tuesday," she said from her home.

The scars on the dog's legs are signs of fighting, investigators told 13News.

Slade contends she found the dog 10 days ago and has been nursing it back to health.

She said she was going to take it to the vet when the dog was seized.

She looks very thin and did when I retrieved her and yeah I understand completely.

Slade added she has dog food, has been feeding the animal.

Animal control officials won't comment on the case, saying its an on-going investigation.

Slade said shes tried to talk with Animal Control about the situation, but she claims no one has returned her calls.

"I would love to talk to them and get this resolved. I could have answered some questions before hand," she added.

Late last month, two Pit bulls belonging to her brother were seized on suspicion of fighting. He's fighting to get them back and denies any involvement in dog fighting.

Slade believes she is being scrutinized because of those allegations.

Court records indicate that the charges were dismissed on December 19, 2006.
