On Sunday, 30 July 06, Nebraska Humane Society investigators found a pit bull that was near death in a backyard at 2421 Decatur Street in Omaha. The dog had not been given water for several days, and the temperature had reached over 100 degrees.

Another pitbull puppy was also seized. The larger pit bull died while enroute to medical treatment. The necropsy shows the dog died from heat related injuries. 33 year old Andre Jackson was cited for animal cruelty, and his case is pending in Douglas County Court in Omaha. Jackson said he thought a friend of his would watch the dogs while he was out of town.
