A heartland man is accused of trying to poison two dogs. Eldred Cannon is facing an animal cruelty charge.

Tango and Cash are Siberian Huskies. The two dogs are also Mina Payton's pride and joy.

Payton says, "Them are my kids. Them are just like my kids."

On Aug 10, officials say that Eldred Cannon went into Payton's back yard intent on hurting the dogs.

Mina says she saw Cannon by the dogs' water. She went out to investigate and was knocked back by the odor of bleach.

Mark Langan, with the Nebraska Humane Society says, "If the dogs would have drank the bleach, enough bleach, it could have caused a torturous death for the dogs. It eats away at the stomach lining, causes severe internal injuries and things like that."

Mina Payton did take out a protection order against Cannon and a judge has signed it. Cannon will have to stay away from Mina, her home and her dogs.
